Books I’ll (Probably) Never Read Tag

I saw this tag over at Ariel Bisset’s youtube channel, which is awesome, so go check out her video! This tag is about all the books you’ll never read and I thought it would be fun to discuss some of the books I won’t read and why.

The Questions

1. A really hyped book you’re not interested in reading?

Anything by Rick Riordan (sorry don’t hate me). I’ve considered reading Percy Jackson for so long, but I don’t see myself picking up this series ever. I don’t know, I liked the movie but I just have no interests in myths and gods and all that.

2. A series you won’t start/won’t be finishing?

I will probably never finish the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas and will never start her other series Throne of Glass. I know, they are so hyped and everybody has been raving about them but I’ve heard also so many bad things, offensive things about them. I read ACOTAR and enjoyed it, but not enough to get the next books in the series.

3. A classic that you’re just not interested in?

Wuthering Heights by Emily BrontΓ«. I tried okay, I tried! I just couldn’t get into it.

4. Any genres you never read?

Erotica is a no-go for me. I would read anything except this.

5. A book on your shelves you’ll probably never actually read?

David Sedaris’ book When You Are Engulfed in Flames. I didn’t even know it was a collection of essays (I only found out because I googled it) but I do know that I will probably never read it. I got it at a second-hand book market and because it was really cheap and I liked the cover I decided to buy it but in hindsight, I should probably never have done that.

Another book I will probably never (or not any day soon) read is Marion Pauw’s Jetset (which is only released in Dutch I think). It is a mystery thriller, one of those summer books my mom would read. My mom gave this book to me but well, it’s not really my type of book.

That was it for this tag, I wasn’t tagged but if you want to do this tag as well, give it a go!

Which book will you never read? Any of these books on your list?

  1. Haha I’m there with you on erotica! Never gonna happen for me! I love Riordon’s books but then again mythology is something I absolutely LOVE

    1. Haha for me neither. I’m not really interested in mythology so idk maybe I’ll try it one day? If I find a copy for very little money or in the library or something. Who knows?

  2. I totally agree with so many of your answers. I tried reading Percy Jackson but couldn’t get in to it. Maybe it’s because I didn’t read it at the right age and don’t have the nostalgia for it?

I go back and forth on Sarah J. Maas books. I’ve heard so many mixed things!

    Fun tag!!

    1. I’m happy I’m not the only one who isn’t interested in Percy Jackson! I’ve read one book that didn’t really impress me by Sarah J. Maas and now I don’t really see a reason to continue with any of her books. Even if they’re good. There are enough other books I’m way more excited about!

  3. I’m with you on Wuthering Heights but I, unfortunately ended up reading it all the way through! It was one of my set texts at school and I hated it so much! I abandoned reading for pleasure for at least a few months so I could dedicate all my time to this book, and no matter how many times I read it, it just didn’t click with me at all.

      1. That’s okay. I’m not bothered that I don’t like it and I even knew that it wouldn’t be for me when I first read it. I would have just read it the once but that wasn’t possible since it was a set text and I had to do an exam on it.

  4. I agree about Wuthering Heights. I pushed myself through it and didn’t end up liking it. So, you’re not missing out on anything there, IMO. I do, however, enjoy Rick Riordan’s books, but I love learning about new myths and gods, which his books have in plenty. If that’s not your cup of tea, then I would warn you against picking them up no matter how much the hype may get to you. I avoid erotica like the plague and also steer clear of romance books in general, but I did make a huge mistake in picking up Fifty Shades of Grey because it was beyond hyped (I’m quite ashamed of admitting this, lol). I read the whole series, but after a few chapters of the first one, I was just reading it to critique it, which is obviously why I didn’t enjoy it at all. Since then I’ve realised that the genre is (probably) not for me.

    1. I think that’s great advice, a lot of people have been telling me they love Rick Riordan books so much, but if I’m not going to enjoy them then why would I read them, simply for the hype. I don’t read romance much either, some YA romance is fun sometimes but not much more than that. I haven’t read Fifty Shades but I’ve heard enough about it that I can safely say I would hate it πŸ˜›

  5. Definitely not erotica for me, lol! Omg Rick Riordan is one of my favorite authors ever!!! Maybe try The Lightning Thief once or something??? *attempts to brainwash you* It’s more than myths, in my opinion… I should read classics but… no. And AGH people love ACOTAR but I’m just not interested??? XD

    1. Hahaha I’m sorry I’m really not interested, your brainwashing ain’t helping πŸ˜› But who knows, one day I might read it, today is not that day lol.

  6. Um WUT. how could you not like Rick Riordan? I’m just kidding, you can whatever opinion you want. But personally, the movies were TERRIBLEEEE compared to the books.

And I’ve read the ACOTAR series and TOG series and tbh I love them but I thought the only offensive thing was no diversity rep but apparently she tried to fix that in ACOWAR but I really DO NOT know..
And ok but I recommend that you read The Lightning Thief. Just for the funnies, because I LOVE Percy’s voice.

    1. Hahaha that’s exactly why it’s on my it’s on my super-hyped-but-not-gonna-happen list πŸ˜› People have been recommending Percy Jackson sooooo much but I just don’t think it’s going to happen (any day soon) sorry 😦
I don’t know really, I’ve heard pretty shady things about the series but I don’t really have facts. I just don’t see why I would read those instead of other books that I am really excited about.

  7. I definitely have to agree with the suggestions to give The Lightning Thief a try! I’m not a huge Riordan fan or even mythology fan (I had to read Edith Hamilton’s 500 page mythology book twice in high school :/), but The Lightning Thief, and the couple books after that one were great! I haven’t read all his series or spin-off series, and I’ve honestly lost count of how many books his written, but if you’re ever up for trying Riordan out, I’d look into that one (also echoing the fact that the movie sucked in comparison to the book).

    1. I just don’t think it’s going to happen… Not any day soon though. I’m not really excited about it anymore and there are a lot of other books I want to read. It’s just not on my priority list, but if I end up finding a copy somewhere, maybe I’ll read it. One day.

    1. Haha I just don’t think it’s going to happen. It’s not even close to the top of my tbr, maybe one day though πŸ™‚

  8. I agree with you on Rick Riordan (and erotica!)

I read the first Percy Jackson book, because I also really liked the movie, and it felt like a kid’s book. I don’t mean YA, I like YA a lot. PJ seemed like a children’s book. Maybe the series gets better later on. I don’t know.

    1. I think it is middle grade, just like Harry Potter, so that’s probably why it felt like a children’s book. (or isn’t it? I don’t know?)

      1. You could be right, though Harry Potter doesn’t feel as Juvenile when I read it. Kind of wish I did like them. The first movie was good, but it doesn’t look like they’re going to keep going with them.

  9. Great tag. A couple of books I will never read are Nabokov’s “Lolita”. About a paedophile, enough said for me! Everyone raves about it, but no! Also “A Little Life”, about sexual child abuse, no way. On a lighter note a book I’ve had for ages is “Persuasion” by Jane Austen. Have not got to it yet, don’t know if I will, something else always seems more interesting. And yeah erotica is not usually good literature, although Lady Chatterley’s Lover is pretty good.

  10. oh, this is amazing! That’s a shame you haven’t read the Percy Jackson books, I mean first I wasn’t interested in gods and myths either but Rick Riordan made it looks so interesting which is probably the reason why I’m into mythology now. I don’t really know if this will change your mind tho haha.

    1. Haha let me just say, I’ve answered about 10-15 comments in which everyone says I have to read it, and I still stand with my opinions. I don’t think I’m going to read it, but who knows, maybe one day?

  11. It’s funny that you mention David Sedaris because I’m a huge fan of his. His essays are very snarky and funny. I did read Wuthering Heights years ago. I tried to read it again recently and simply couldn’t do it. Everyone has different tastes!

  12. I love this tag! I have to say, though, Rick Riordan is the one who actually got me into myths, and everyone I know seems to have loved ACOMAF more than ACOTAR. But I totally understand, there’s so many books to read and so little time! πŸ˜‰
