Writing: A Poem, A Snippet and Some Writing Ideas

I normally post on Sundays and I was planning to do so yesterday as well, but life got in the way (and also this thing I did on twitter). Oops. Anyway, I’m going to make it up to you by posting today! It’s even more elaborate than I initially was going to make it, because I got inspired yesterday night (as in: in the middle of the night because who needs sleep when you can write? Me, obviously.).

A Poem

Maybe I didn’t rise
from the ashes
of my shattered heart,
Maybe I just
got up
and started walking

Maybe I didn’t mend
all the pieces
of my fractured heart,
Maybe I just
picked them up
and hoped for the best

Maybe it didn’t
make me stronger,
I did.

~I’m not strong because of it, I’m strong despite of it.

Story Ideas

I’ve been “working” on my current writing project for a few months now and I like it but it doesn’t really interest me that much anymore, so I’m giving myself a break from it. Maybe I get back to it, maybe I don’t. At this moment, I honestly don’t care that much… But I do have several new ideas I’d like to work on of which one you might have heard about before (on Mahriya’s blog, because I won this round of The Typewriter’s Project :D).

  • Our Shattered Minds

This is a story/novel idea about 4 very different people who sort of share one mind. I’m not 100% sure whether it will be a multiple personality disorder kind of thing, or a more sense8 kind of thing (in which the characters are connected without them being the same “person”). But there is magic and in some way, the characters split their lives which messes up the magic in the world (which is called Caligan). They’ll have to fix it. It’s all very vague yet but I really like it. If there ever were a sequel I would call it These Fractured Shadows.

  • What We Wrote on the Bathroom Walls

This is a story idea I had a few weeks ago and it kept me up half the night. I really need to get back into a regular sleeping schedule that doesn’t involve me falling asleep past 1 am every single night.  The story is in it’s entirely told by things people wrote on bathroom walls. It’ll be a story about high school and bullying. I’m still struggling with the format and how it’s supposed to look and work but I really like this idea.

A Snippet

This is a snippet from the first story/novel idea I wrote about, Our Shattered Minds. This is about one of the characters (she’s an assassin and badass).

This was the part she enjoyed most. The flirtatious eye-lid fluttering, the giggling about silly jokes, the hasty brushing of fingertips and lips, the pleasure of luring someone in. It was the part of anticipation, of wonder. The part of seduction and sensation.

What came next was something that Emery wouldn’t gladly admit made her feel at ease. The power of having someone’s life in your hands, completely and utterly, was something that topped every drug she had ever tried. And she had tried a lot. She liked it bloody, knifes and swords, sometimes even a gun, but her orders were to be swift and clean. So she was. With a quick swipe of her fingertips along the man’s jaw her magic did its job. She could feel his heart beat slowing, like it were her own. Every single drop of blood in his body slowed its movement, finally coming to a stand-still. His heart stopped, and hers bounced louder in her chest.

Euphoria. That was what it felt like.

I hope you liked this! I’m going to try to do bi-weekly writing posts, which means on Sunday I’ll alternate between Newbie Bloggers and writing. Are you also a writer? Had any cool story ideas lately?

  1. I’m trying to get back into writing but the one thing I don’t want to do is force it. I’ve got the start of a project (a contemporary) and my three main characters (all sisters) but I’m struggling to come up with a main plot, and whether to make it a 1st or 3rd person pov. All I know is that I’m going to have Deaf awareness weaving through it as one of my characters is profoundly Deaf. I don’t want it to solely focus on the deafness though. I’ve drawn a blank but I know that this is something I really want to write so it is driving me crazy that I’m having these plot issues.

    1. I always struggle with the plot as well! I like writing but I always get stuck on making a plot that is interesting and not predictable. I really like the idea of deaf characters, and I love stories about sisters. I wouldn’t know how to help you, because I’m not good at it myself.. but I hope you figure it out!

  2. Your books sound really interesting! And I loved the poem and the snippet – I got chills. My book that I’m working on has completely changed course lol.

    1. Thanks! Aww ❤
Changing course is not a bad thing, usually, but changing your story is undoubtably going to cause you some issues but it'll probably make your story better!

      1. Yeah I have the feeling that the changes I’ll be making will be for the better but it’ll be a headache to make it all work out like I imagine it in my head

  3. Lia, your WIPs sound AMAZING. Especially Our Shattered Minds — I love assassin stories! And your poem was beautiful — chilling, actually.

Keep writing! You have a pure talent for it, and I hope you keep going.

    Have a lovely week! <333

  4. Both of your ideas sound very promising! In Our Shattered Minds it’ll be fascinating to see how each reacts to the other of the four who bothers them the most… I really like books to do with bullies, it’s a hard topic but the bathroom walls would be a great concept if you can get across the entire story that way! 👍🏻❤️🍀 Good luck I hope they continue to hold your interest!

    1. Haha yeah, they are definitely going to bother each other lol. I’m curious to see how that’s going to go as well 🙂
I’m going to think about it, but it’s definitely not going to be easy.

  5. DUDE YOUR WRITING. I LOVE IT. I especially love the snippet because 1) SUCH AMAZING DESCRIPTION AND PROSE and 2) third person!!! 😍 (I’ll definitely be checking those books out on your Twitter thread btw.) I’m working on a novel that I’m not really into??? I have another plot bunny that I want to chase — a depressed Peter Pan (can’t fly) and a Hook who gets panic attacks every time he hears a clock.

    1. :D:D:D Thank youuu ❤
I just switched to third person and I love it so much already. I love Peter Pan retelling and Hook with panic attacks sounds awesome! I love that story idea! I would say, just go for it. I just paused my other wip and I'm really glad I did because I'm excited again 😀

The title of Our Shattered Minds sounds super cool! And the concept too of course XD.

Also I love your poem??? And also the concept of leaving a line with the dash has been INTRODUCED TO ME. I love the last line!

    1. I WILL I WILL. I’m working on it 😀 (I’m currently at 1.5k sooo more writing later!)
I’m happy you liked it ❤
I really like those wavy dash things, but I kind of stole the idea from Amanda Lovelace's The Princess Saves Herself In This One because I loved that!
