Bookish Playlist: The Wolves of Mercy Falls

I have been thinking about this month’s playlist for a long time now and I’ve finally decided to make this month’s playlist “The Wolves of Mercy Falls”-themed. The Wolves of Mercy Falls is a series by Maggie Stiefvater (yeah sorry again a Maggie Stiefvater Playlist) that consists of Shiver, Linger and Forever and the companion novel Sinner. I have recently read Sinner and I’m completely back to low-key obsessing over the characters.

This is a monthly feature here, and each month I’ll make a playlist related to a book or series I read. My music taste varies from folk, to indie, to rock, to a bit of punk so that is mainly what you can expect. I will post my playlist here and do a shout-out to some songs on it, and why I think they fit the book(s).

This playlist will have two parts: a Sam and Grace part and a Cole and Isabelle part. Sam and Grace are the main characters in the trilogy, and Cole and Isabelle are side-characters. However, in Sinner, Cole and Isabelle get the main part. Both couples are extremely different. Sam and Grace are sweet, poetry, guitar strings, snow and cuddles. Cole and Isabelle are fire and ice, rock music, action, escape and longing. That’s how I would describe them. Therefore I have made this a two-part playlist, they both are just too different to fit into one playlist.

The Songs

Bloom by The Paper Kites

In the morning when I wake
And the sun is coming through,
Oh, you fill my lungs with sweetness,
And you fill my head with you

Shall I write it in a letter?
Shall I try to get it down?
Oh, you fill my head with pieces
Of a song I can’t get out

I adore this song for Sam and Grace. Sam is a musician and a poetry lover and this sounds so like something he’d sing. Sam and Grace to me just represent a perfect Sunday-morning feeling. Lazy, sweet and romantic, which is something that this song captures perfectly.

Wolves without Teeth by Of Monsters and Men

And I run from wolves, ooh
Breathing heavily
At my feet
And I run from wolves, ooh
Tearing into me
Without teeth

I can see through you
We are the same
It’s perfectly strange
You run in my veins
How can I keep you
Inside my lungs
I breathe what is yours
You breathe what is mine

This is the perfect Sam and Grace song it just screams them. Sam is a (were)wolf and Grace is a human and when she was young she was attacked by wolves, and Sam saved her.

Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves) by The Wombats

If you love me let me go
Back to that bar in Tokyo
Where the demons from my past
Leave me in peace
(ah ah ah ah)
I’ll be animating every night
The grass will be greener on the other side
And the Vampires and Wolves
Won’t sink their teeth
(ah ah ah ah)
I’m sick of dancing with the beast

This song, to me, describes how Cole wants to escape his past and his life in general. He has a problem with drugs and he wants to escape “the beast”. Also, this song mentions wolves so yeah, it’s a good fit haha!

Do I wanna know? by the Arctic Monkeys

(Do I wanna know?)
If this feeling flows both ways
(Sad to see you go)
Was sorta hoping that you’d stay
(Baby we both know)
That the nights were mainly made for saying
Things that you can’t say tomorrow day

Crawlin’ back to you

Okay so Isabelle and Cole have a very difficult relationship, they both like each other, but they’re also very self-destructive and have problems being together. I can just imagine Cole listening to this song in the middle of the night while wondering about what Isabelle is feeling and doing.

What did you think of this playlist? Did you like it? Do you have songs you think that should be added? Any books you’d like to see a playlist of next?

    1. I loved the series a few years ago, but I’m not sure I would love them the same way right now, I’d still recommend it of course! Thanks!

    1. If you loved Cole and Isabelle in the other books, I’m sure you’ll love Sinner! It doesn’t take place where the other books take place, but in LA and sadly Sam and Grace had almost no role 😦 but that was the only thing I didn’t like that much. I’m just a sucker for Sam and Grace so I missed them haha
I didn’t know this book existed either! I only found out a few months ago when I saw a picture over on instagram… So strange because I LOVED the series but didn’t know there was another book???

      1. Okay I loved Cole and Isabelle, so I’ll have to give it a shot. Also, I’m unhappy with how their story ended in Forever :/ And what, no Mercy Falls?? That’s so sad! But I really do want to know what happened with them…but can I take it getting back into that world again? It always leaves me a mess when I finish.
