Bookish Playlist | Daughter of the Burning City

As usual, each month I make a bookish playlist. This month it’s time for Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody! Daughter of the Burning City is the perfect read for Autumn and especially October! It has a magical circus, a freak show, illusions, and a murder mystery!

The Songs

Carousel by Marina Martinez

Round and round like a horse on a carousel, we go,
Will I catch up to love? I could never tell, I know,
Chasing after you is like a fairytale, but I,
Feel like I’m glued on tight to this carousel

Carousel is more of an aesthetically fitting song than a lyrically fitting song. Though, the lyrics do fit a little to the story, because (though it is not the main storyline) Sorina really wants to fall in love and eventually does.

Circus by Britney Spears

I feel the adrenaline moving through my veins
Spotlight on me and I’m ready to break
I’m like a performer, the dancefloor is my stage
Better be ready, hope that ya feel the same

Yes, that’s right, Britney Spears is in my playlist (this is a small miracle, I don’t really like Britney Spears). I heard this song and I just couldn’t not add it to my playlist and I actually quite like it. Sorina is the one running the Freak Show so she’s always in the spotlight, performing. So it fits pretty well!

Daniel in the Den by Bastille

And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love
They will come for you
And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love
They will come for you

The book is a murder mystery and there are quite some mysterious things going on, illusions are getting killed and you never know who to trust. I think this song displays that feeling really well!

Brother by Gerard Way

The lights we chase
The nights we steal
The things that we take
To make us feel this
I can’t go back
I don’t think I will
I won’t sleep tonight as long as I still
Hear the drums of the city rain

The festival of Gomorrah takes place at night, and only when the sun goes down, the city comes alive.

I also added Freak Show by The Cog is Dead which is actually super funny and it makes me smile every time I hear it. It is however, a little annoying at times haha.

Another thing, if you have twitter, please check out this tweet and help me out!

This will be the last post you’ll see of me this week. I’ll be returning from my mini-hiatus on October 23rd.

Lastly but not least, I opened my own RedBubble store! Go check it out!

      1. I love those too! I love the weird songs from their Other People’s Heartache EPs, especially Of The Night. All their songs are amazing!
