This is the second week of November and I’ve officially been writing for NaNoWriMo twelve days and it have been twelve crazy days. At the beginning of week two of NaNoWriMo (last Wednesday), my motivation was so low! I just couldn’t get myself to write and eventually had to force myself to keep going. After that Wednesday, things went up and down, my motivation is still not that high but it’s better than it was. On Friday I almost didn’t write at all, which was so demotivating! However, on Saturday, I suddenly wrote 3k.
What’s my story?
If you have forgotten what my story is about, it’s called Making Mountains Bow and it’s Mulan retelling/inspired mixed in with elements from How To Train Your Dragon. The story is set in modern-day China and is about a transgender boy. There’s war, dragons, family, tragedy, joy and a lot of amazing characters that I love to pieces.
Unfortunately, I had to kill one of the characters but let’s just forget I did that, okay?
Only two this time because I have only two characters I didn’t properly introduce last time and because I don’t have time to make more.
I’m currently at 21.222 words, which is a little over 1k ahead of schedule! I’m actually really surprised I managed to catch up so quick because I was behind only a few days ago. I’m having bad days and good days for writing and sometimes they’re both at the same time. Often, I don’t feel like writing but once I start, I write a lot.
“So now… the rest?” Mars asked. They had worked in silence but he could see in her eyes that she wasn’t very comfortable with this. Cutting off his hair was probably already too much to ask.
“You don’t have to do it, I can just go to the hairdresser’s.” The thought of having to explain what he wanted to a stranger scared him.
“I’m afraid I’ll ruin it.”
“There’s nothing to ruin,” he laughed, lightening the mood a little, “it’s just hair, it’ll grow.”
But it wasn’t just hair, that was the whole point of this. It was shaping his identity in ways he had never imagined.
“But that’s An,” he said confused.
“I knew it!”
“That’s not a good thing. That’s my cousin. And if he sees me like this he’ll…”
“He’ll what? He seems nice enough.”
He’ll tell my family. That was the sentence he had wanted to say.
“I bet he doesn’t even recognize this handsome face,” she pinched his cheek.
“Ouch, you may have helped me to look like this,” he motioned to himself, “but that doesn’t give you the opportunity to hurt me.”
She pursed her lips, “aww petty boy, does it hurt?” She pinched him again.
Her arms tightened around him, “I love you too. You deserve to be loved, you know. Everyone does.”
It’s weird how their fates had aligned and brought the two of them together. Xiulan barely remembered ever having to live without Mars. He couldn’t imagine having to live without her. While the universe had taken [SPOILER], it had given him Mars in return.
Ps. Mars and Xiulan weren’t supposed to be this close idk how that happened but Mars keeps doing things I don’t expect!
