Hiatus Announcement + Some Questions in the Sunshine Blogger Award!

I think I mentioned this once before, but I will be taking a mini-hiatus very soon. Probably from Sunday on until next week Sunday.  I will post on this Saturday and probably also on Sunday this week but after that, I’m gone! I’ll be going on short vacation and I am so busy with school that I am unable to write posts ahead of time, also, that would be super stressful so I’m not doing that to myself. I will probably return with a post on October 24th.

Anyway, now that we got that over with, today I wanted to do a tag! I suck at doing tags on time because I always end up with a long long list of tags I was tagged in and never get around to do them. This is the Sunshine Blogger Award and I was nominated by the wonderful Laura Noakes (who is absolutely lovely and you should definitely check out her blog!). Thank you, Laura!

The Evil Writer Award

I saw this award over at Smudged Thoughts and I couldn’t not do this. It sounds like such a fun tag and there is no doubt I’m an evil writer *evil laugh*, all of my characters had the worst childhood ever and people drop dead like leaves in autumn in this story.

dividerqsandas

How many characters do you typically kill per book? And how many people have you killed in real life, dear? Do you… feel any remorse about this? I’m concerned about you.

I haven’t finished my book yet but I’ve written about 20k and there are is only one death on paper, but there are probably about four-ish that died before the story started. I plan on having a massive kill-party near halfway and probably another near the end. But okay seriously, I expect there to be at least 20 deaths (not including the ones that died before), but probably no major characters.

I’m not going to answer the second part of this question 😛

Do you prefer to use weapons of mass destruction like explosions and famine and world war or more personal torture like killing family and friends and pets?

Personal torture, thank you very much. That way I can cause my characters some more pain because apparently, I like doing that.

Are you more like Loki, who perpetrates great evil with a creepy grin, or… give me a minute… Darth Vader, who secretly weeps inside his… fake head, whilst destroying the world?

Creepy grin. But at the same time, I cry for my characters.

What is the most dastardly crime you have ever committed as a writer?

So far, killed the (only?) person my character loved, in a very very awful way *grins*.

What kind of chocolate do you most like to devour as you burn things? White, milk, semisweet, or dark? Bonus points if you are so evil you find unsweetened cacao palatable!

Milk! I love milk chocolate. While we’re on the topic *takes a bite of chocolate*. You can never have enough chocolate while writing.

What is your villainous title? You may not have “Evil Overlord” because that one’s mine.

Uhm… Miss Heartbreak. Because I like to break my characters’ hearts (I’ll fix them again, I promise).

Which of your characters would actually be a match for you if you were to duke it out one on one?

Emery. No doubt. She’d kill me on sight. But honestly, I wouldn’t want to meet Felton or Noa in a dark alley either. Brim I could probably fight, and like, not lose to in the first few seconds.

Which character, in all the many books you have undoubtedly written, is most likely to be your Archnemesis?

*has not even 1 finished draft of book*

*smiles sheepishly*

I don’t know.

Do you wear a cape? Face paint? A mask? Special underpants? Or do you hide in plain sight… like Moriarty? Give me details!

I wear my special cloak because CLOAKS.

Are you an evil writer like me? Then you should do this tag, because it’s lots of fun! What is the worst thing you’ve done to your characters? How many characters will die in your book?

The Liebster Award

I’m sooooo late with all my tags and awards, therefore 2-in-1! I got nominated for the Liebster Award two times! So hereby thanks to May and McKenzie!

May’s Questions

  • If you were to stop blogging, what would be the reason? – Because I would be dead. Okay no, the only reason right now I could think of if it would be that I would no longer have time.
  • What are some hobbies you have? – You want a list? Because that could go on forever. Some of my main hobbies are drawing/hand lettering, photography, blogging, watching tv shows, reading.
  • Would you rather be dead or die? (Yes, there’s a difference.) – well… in order to be dead you have to die, and dying seems a bit more painful than simply not existing, so let’s skip the dying part and just be dead?
  • Do you like mangoes??? – I feel like I cannot answer this question with a no haha. I like mangoes, yes!
  • What book would you not feel guilty about stomping on, tearing, and burning in a fire? – I use my copy of Lord of The Rings as a doorstop/windowstop haha, it’s big and I don’t care about so I wouldn’t mind ruining it, though, then I would have nothing to keep my doors/windows open…
  • What blogs do you ALWAYS look forward to reading? (Or, if you’re afraid your dear readers might feel bad: What type of blogs do you tend to follow? ie. book blogs, lifestyle blogs, writing blogs, etc.) – In general, I love blogs that have a lot of discussions and original content. I don’t feel like looking up all the urls so I’m just going to keep it like this.
  • What’s one moment in your life you’d choose to play over and over again (aka re-experience over and over again?) – This might be weird, but I once was at the sea in the evening and the waves were crashing against the walls of the boulevard and it was honestly the most calming wonderful thing ever. I wish I could stand there every evening.
  • You have the choice of reading a book you HATE, every single day, or reading one good book per year. Which do you choose? – One good book obviously. I love reading but I’m not going to make myself read horrible books all year through, I would get depressed.
  • What’s one food you will never get tired of eating??? (ONE food, people, ONE.) – Pasta. I love pasta and you can basically make it everything you want it to be.
  • What would you do if someone walked up to you and gave you 100 bucks? – uhm be very surprised, try to give it back but probably be too surprised to do anything. Maybe do some random acts of kindness or spend it on books to give away (and keep)
  • How are you right now? ❤ – right now I am awesome, the weather is amazing and I’ve got a pup playing at my feet. Thanks for asking ❤ [edit: the situation got even better, now I’ve got a popsicle]

McKenzie’s Questions

  • Whats your favorite book trope? – Friend becoming lovers. Or just really great friendships.
  • Have you ever been to an author signing? If so who? – No sadly not, I live in The Netherlands so… only Dutch authors sign here and I barely know any of those.
  • Put your music on shuffle, whats the first song that played? – Last Nite by The Strokes
  • Whats your dream job? – Something in marketing, preferably neuromarketing (which uses brain scan techniques to understand people’s buying behaviour)
  • Which bookish pet would you gladly adopt? – I’ve always wanted a stormhunter from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. They are huge majestic flying animals that remind me of dragons.
  • Whats your favorite book of 2017 so far? – The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner.
  • What type of pet person are you? Dog? Cat? Fish? Dragon? – Dogs and cats equally.
  • Favorite food to snack on while reading? – Eating and reading don’t go ver well together, so nothing.
  • Which Harry Potter book would you reread, rewrite, and burn? (Or pick your favorite series to do!) – I don’t really have a favourite HP book. My favourite series would be The Lunar Chronicles, so I’m going to have to reread Winter, rewrite Cinder and burn Scarlet (sorry Scarlet 😥 )
  • Whats the biggest book on your shelf? (Size or length, you pick) – Winter by Marissa Meyer is 800+ pages so I think that counts as the biggest book.
  • What advice would you give to new bloggers? – Connect!!! Get in touch with the rest of the community! Or take part in my new project!

divider1letstalk

What’s your favourite book of 2017 so far? Do you have a moment in your life that you would redo over and over again?

Thanks for reading and if you want to do this as well, just pick 11 questions from this long list and let me know! I’d love to read your answers!

The Book Blogger Awards: My Nominations

Happy King’s Day from the Netherlands! This means a) lots of flea markets = cheap book hunting, b) a day off, c) music & activities everywhere and d) it’s the king’s birthday (which is obviously the least important thing in this list haha).

Joce from Write Through the Night is organizing the first ever book blogger awards and that’s such an amazing initiative! If you want to read more about these awards, go click on the link to her blog. Without any further ado, here are my nominations!

GENRE MOST BLOGGED ABOUT:

  • Young Adult – Anike and Zoë from Twin Tales (they are twins, obviously), together they run this wonderful blog with reviews and tags and they’re just really great!
  • New Adult / General Adult – This one definitely goes to Zuky from BookBum, she blogs mainly about adult fiction and even though I barely read adult fiction (and therefore usually have no clue which books she is talking about), I feel myself drawn to read all of her posts! Also her weekly Netgalley picks feature is amazing (please someone do that for YA books too, I love it)
  • Does a little bit of everything – Jasmine from How Useful It Is reviews not only YA but also children’s picture books and I believe also adult fiction. She’s just such a nice person in this community and has always been one of the bloggers I looked up to from the start.

THE BEST OF BOOK BLOGGING:

  • Best book reviews – Krysti from YA and Wine, though I don’t care for wine, I think Krysti’s reviews are always really good! She also rates the cover and the swoon-worthiness of the book which is a huge plus!
  • Best bookish discussions – Ashley from Inside My Minds, she writes a lot of bookish discussions and they’re always a joy to read! They’re short and sweet, and usually very thought-provoking!

THE OTHER STUFF:

  • Most full of personality – May from Forever and Everly, she is just so full of personality, she’s just a joy to read posts from and talk to! Her blog is so original and always fun to read. Her blog (which is really pretty btw) really represents her personality: sweet and happy.
Mahriya from My Bookish Life is another amazing blogger with a lot of original content, she’s got a great personality and I couldn’t not nominate her for this!
  • Best Friend ever – I can’t help but pick two for this topic, which are  Debbie from Debbie’s Library and Savannah from The Book Prophet. Debbie has been with me from pretty much the start and she’s the sweetest person! Savannah I met a little later but ever since that first comment we’ve become quite the blogging buddies. I love you both so much, thank you for going with me through this long process that will hopefully not end any time soon!

MOST IMPORTANTLY:

  • Best New Book Blogger (created blog after July 2016) – I’m giving a shout-out here to Jess from Bookends and Endings and to Bex from My Shelf & My Self who are both lovely new bloggers and deserve some love!
  • Best Overall Book Blogger – You can’t make me choose! So I choose nobody (which implies that you’re all amazing) 😛

Argh this was hard! Not as hard as I expected it to be! There are probably a lot of bloggers out there that deserved this just as much so I’m sorry if I left you out, it probably was not intentional.

I highly recommend you to send out your nominations soon, because the nomination period ends April 30th, which is only a few days away!

Have a wonderful day!

The Real Neat Blog Award

A long while ago I was nominated for this award, twice I must say, just about two months ago. I was nominated by Trisha from Autumn of 2003 and Allie from WondrousNightRambler, thank you both and everybody go check out their blogs, they’re wonderful!

Trisha’s Questions

  1. Who is your least favourite singer/band? I really dislike a lot of Dutch singers, but I don’t really know who’s my least favourite.
  2. Who’s your favourite youtuber? John Green (and Hank too)
  3. Would you call yourself a bookworm? Uhm, yes that just about describes half my life.
  4. Favourite TV shows? I have a list that will probably go on until infinity and beyond: Supernatural, Once Upon A Time, Grimm, The Flash, Supergirl, Gilmore Girls, Friends,  and about 10 or so more but it’s not worth writing all down.
  5. Why did you start your blog? Short story short, I was a little bored, and I wanted somewhere to get rid of my bookish frustrations and rambles.
  6. What’s one good thing that’s happened to you today? Today, I finished a book. (Actually yesterday because I’m planning to post this tomorrow, when I’m at a very interesting (I hope) symposium)
  7. Can you  type supercalifragilisticexpialidocious whilst holding your breath? Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Yes I can 🙂 It kinda hard though because I needed to type it with one hand so I could keep myself from breathing from my nose, which made me need to see where my fingers were placed on the keyboard, which then made me have to look up every three letters and check like three times whether I was typing the right letter.

Allie’s Questions

  1. What is your favorite book? Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (Jonathan Safran Foer)
  2. What is your least favorite color? I don’t know, I don’t dislike any colour. Maybe bright pink.
  3. Favorite song at the moment? What an impossible question, I love so many songs at this moment, but let me just choose the one I’m listening to right now, which is Antoine Dufour with Talk. I love listening to acoustic guitar songs with no vocals while working and this one is my favourite work song right now.
  4. Who is your least favorite celebrity? Trump? But I think it’s a tie between Geert Wilders and Donald Trump right now. (If you don’t know Geert Wilders, he’s a Dutch politician who openly hates the Islam and wants to ban anything that has to do with the religion from our country, including the people).
  5. If you were transported into any book or movie what would it be? I would love to take a holiday on Luna from the Lunar Chronicles, meet the gang and visit all the beautiful places in Artemisia.
  6. How is a raven like a writing desk? I have been thinking about this a lot and I think I remember the riddle but not the answer. So frustrating.. They both have legs?
  7. Do you have a conspiracy theory or theories you believe in completely? Not really.

I’m too lazy to make up questions, so not tagging anyone today. But I’d like to know: What is your least favourite colour? And what’s a good thing that happened to you today?

The Liebster Award

I was tagged by Hannah from The Book Thief Without Words for the Liebster Award, so thank you, Hannah! I just looked it up and apparently, Liebster means dearest in German which is cute. And also very fitting for today.

I completely forgot to let you all know, I have hit 300 followers! Thank you all! Any ideas for how to celebrate? (except for buying myself chocolate, because chocolate is the best)
