The Bookish Naughty List Book Tag | In which I confess all my bookish sins

I think we’ve all done things we rather not admit we did. In this post, I’ll be confessing some of these things (but only the book-related ones :P).

This tag is created by my wonderful friend Jenn from Jenniely. Thank you, Jenn! I highly recommend everyone to check out her blog because she’s amazing and so dedicated to her blog! The only rule to this tag is to go through the list and tick all the one’s you’re guilty of and tag 10 people to do the same!

The End of The Year Book Tag | 2017 Edition

The end of the year is creeping up on me and I am not liking it *panics* I am not ready for 2017 to be over… Can it be 2017 for a few more months, please? In 2018 I’m going to graduate (hopefully) and leave all my friends behind and start my master’s degree in a different city and basically, my life’s gonna be thrown upside down and it’s scary!

Anyway, let’s stop panicking and instead talk about my plans for the rest of this year. This tag is originally created by Ariel Bisset on youtube, and I was tagged by the wonderful Theo from Reading & Rambling! Thank you, Theo ❤

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

Hahaha *cries* Little Women by Louise May Alcott. I started this in August and I’m still stuck somewhere halfway. I don’t even know what happened, I just stopped reading and never felt like picking it up again.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I don’t even know what an “autumnal book” is even supposed to be. A creepy Halloween book? I don’t read thrillers or horror books…

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

Yes! I’m still waiting on All The Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater (my pre-order has shipped, yay!), All The Ways to Here by Emily O’Beirne (I have been promised an e-ARC :D) and Empress of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao!

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

I just NEED to get to Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (I can’t believe I’ve had it for a month and haven’t read it yet), Our Dark Duet by V.E. Schwab (same here. Why haven’t I picked it up yet???) and The Long Way to A Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers (I’m afraid Amelie will get angry if I don’t read it :P).

Other books I really want to get to before 2018 is here: Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo and Invictus by Ryan Graudin.

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?

Beside Our Dark Duet and The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet as mentioned above, I have high hopes for: What’s A Girl Gotta Do? by Holly Bourne and At The Edge of the Universe by Shaun David Hutchinson. I read two of Holly Bourne’s books and absolutely loved them, I adored the two first books in the Spinsters series and I LOVE LOTTIE so I don’t think anything can keep me from loving this book. I also have high hopes for At The Edge of the Universe because I loved We Are The Ants and Shaun David Hutchinson has such amazing stories!

Have you already started making reading plans for 2018?

No, first I have to survive 2017 & write my thesis, then I’ll see. I don’t even have planned what I’m going to read tomorrow, how could I plan so many months ahead? I do have some 2018 releases I’m anticipating, so maybe that counts?

A quick list:

What books do you think could become your favourite of this year? Any 2017/2018 releases you’re anticipating?

The Book Mashup Tag (original) | In which my brain has made a weird but wonderful thing

Many books have this little blurb saying “for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and The Hunger Games” or something alike. I usually really like those kind of things but only if they’re accurate. And if they mention any of the cliché too-often-compared-to books, they might as well not do it at all.

However, they are really fun to play with, and that’s what I’m going to do today. This tag is created in the weird part of my sleep-deprived brain and works like this:

  • Choose 10 or more book titles (you can also play with tv series, movies or basically anything that has a story and characters)
  • Put them in a bowl/mug (or be lazy like me and just use a randomizer online)
  • Take 2 of them and mash them up!
  • You can take characters from one story and put them in the other, mix up the worlds, fuse the story-lines, anything is okay as long has it contains elements from both stories!
  • Write a (small) paragraph with the premise of your new mashed-up story
  • Go on until you’re out of titles!
  • Have fun! Go crazy!

I’m going to play with a bunch of very well-known YA books because it’s fun and everybody knows them at least a little.

1. The Hunger Games X Six of Crows

The gangs of Ketterdam fight in an epic battle to the death to become the best of the city. All the gang leaders have to put forward their best and most cunning. Of course, the first of the Dregs to volunteer was Kaz Brekker, aka Dirty Hands. Not much later Katniss Everdeen of the Dime Lions, a smart bow-woman stood up to fill their spot, but only to save her sister Inej from having to participate. Inej is not pleased.

2. Illuminae X Red Queen

The Silvers and Reds lived in peace until the space ships attacked, only few were able to survive the mysterious attack. Among them, many Silver royals and a common Red girl pretending to be one of them. Throughout the flight, the Silvers take control, because only they can control the ship with their powers. The common Reds only realize before they do that the ship’s AI system is out of control and Kady, a programmer, and Ezra, a pilot, have to save the ship from disaster.

3. The Raven Boys X Radio Silence

Frances’ best friend, Blue, lives on the other side of the country, but seems worlds away. The only way they keep in touch is over through the internet. Frances, however, keeps hearing less and less of Blue and in order not to face her feelings for Blue (sorry not sorry) starts to obsess over the podcast Universe City. Little does she know, that Blue is making different friends, falls in love and is on the search for a Welsh king that may or may not even exist.

4. The Infernal Devices X Fangirl

Cath’s family of Shadowhunters had always been pushing her to train and become one herself. Cath, however, prefers to think up the most amazing adventures in the safety of her room. Only when a new girl arrives at the (dominantly male) institute, her life starts to shift. She’s dragged in the adventure to save the Shadowhunters, together with Tessa, from dangerous automatons and a creepy old man who should just shut up already.

5. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children X The Kiss of Deception

When Lia escapes her arranged marriage, she hopes to find a simple life on a small island on the English coast. She doesn’t know, however, that the boy she was meant to marry is trailing her every step and even worse, a traitorous spy who turns out to be a wight (#spoileralert :P). With monsters around every corner on her journey, she finds home in a strange orphanage with even stranger children stuck in a time-loop.

6. An Ember in the Ashes X Harry Potter

When an owl showed up at Elias’ doorstep with his letter to Blackcliff Academy, the most notorious school for battle and magic in the middle of the desert, he can’t believe his eyes. His loyalty always was in the muggle world, but for his family’s namesake, he goes anyway. But then, he is also entered in the tri-wizard tournament and has to win from the famous boy who lived in order to be able to return to his muggle life.

7. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe X The Maze Runner

When Ari arrives at the Maze, his life seems to have taken a turn for the worse. He can’t remember anything but when he looks into the eyes of Dante, another boy in the maze, his heart aches. He aches to see the stars, which they can’t see at the Maze. Thomas, another boy at the Maze seems to gather the group to try to escape but all Ari really wants is to escape the maze that is his own mind.

This went from a little crazy to psycho crazy, but this was honestly so much fun to do! I hope you loved reading it too! I am tagging: Eve, InsideMyLibraryMind, Jenn, May, Ilsa, Michelle, and uhhmm anyone who wants to do this! (I dare you!)

If you’re doing this tag, please link back to me and thank the person that tagged you! I’d love to see what you all come up with!

The Book Aesthetics Tag

I wasn’t even planning on doing many tags now after I’ve binged so many over the summer but then Michelle came up with this awesome tag and I couldn’t resist! I am addicted to aesthetics lately because the pinterest fever finally came to me and I cannot stop. (no the pinterest fever is not an actual thing, sometimes I make stuff up)

I was tagged by both Michelle and Kat and they both made wonderful aesthetics so go check out their posts (and their blogs too because they’re amazing). Thank you both for feeding my aesthetics addiction 🙂

💛 Thank whoever nominated you (maybe you’re bitter that you have ANOTHER tag to do on top of the billions you already need to do (#relatable), still though. Someone thought of you. Be thankful. At least pretend to be
💛 Credit the creator of this tag (Michelle!)
💛 There’s no limit of how many aesthetics you can make for a question, but think of your poor readers.
💛 Make your OWN aesthetics, please don’t steal them from someone else. Also what’s the fun in that?

P.s. I might steal them from myself though because I make aesthetics quite often and why not reuse images I found before?

Favourite book of the year

WITH NO DOUBT: The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

The Serpent King (2).jpg

A Character You Relate To A Lot

Kiko from Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman! She’s awkward and loves art and her relationships with family aren’t very well. She also has social anxiety (which I don’t) and is bi-racial (which I also am not), but still, she’s very relatable!

A Character You Look Up To

I love Cinder. Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles is such an amazing character, I could learn a lot from her.

An Underrated Gem

I just read this over the summer and loved it. Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin is so underrated!

A Character That Deserves More Love

Evie from Am I Normal Yet? by Holly Bourne just has the worst luck when it comes to boys tbh?? I do still ship her with Olli though, but she deserves someone who deserves her! Still, she has the best friends anyone could ask for (seriously, give me a Lottie and Amber please). She also has OCD (not that that has anything to do with this but I feel the need to let you know).

Spinster club

An Underrated OTP

Can I just say Kady and Ezra from Illuminae *dies*

I didn’t include pictures of Ezra because I honestly can’t remember what he looked like… Oops.

I’m going to tag a few people that I think will love this (if you don’t want to do this that’s okay!):  Ara, Laura, May, BrionyLauraSavannah, Kate, and YOU!

What’s your favourite book of the year? Underrated books that I must read? Which character deserves more love?

What Cats Do Book Tag

I was tagged for the What Cats Do Book Tag by Faith from Adventuring Girl and because I love cats and books, I decided to give it a go! Thank you, Faith for tagging me!

  1. Credit Kate
  2. Answer the questions
  3. And tag as many people as you like

Purr – as cats do when they’re happy or relaxed, what is the book that makes you happy or relaxed?

Sometimes the best thing is just to read some romantic, slightly cliché book and relax. I don’t do it often, but sometimes. Isla and the Happily Ever After is definitely one of those sappy books that makes me happy.

Sleep – what is a book that put you to sleep, or was just boring?

SeQuence was just so boring… Sorry.

Twitch While Dreaming – have you ever dreamt of a book you read?

Not that I can remember. I did once dream about Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine, which I haven’t read but I dreamt that the writer was about to give me a copy of her book and then she decided to give it so someone else :/

Seems to Play Nice…until the claws are out – which book had the biggest plot twist?

Plot twists don’t get much bigger than the one in Red Queen!

Cuddles – which book character would you (want to) give a hug to?

My answer to this question will forever and always be Oskar from Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Please let me hug Oskar, okay, he needs it so much.

Catnip – what’s a book that made you have warm and fuzzy feels?

The Color Project gave me a lot of fuzzy feels!

Cat Breeds – what are your favorite books?

Both Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and The Serpent King have a special place in my heart.

The Vet’s Office – least favorite book.

I don’t really have one least favourite book but The Way Back Home gets pretty damn close.

Being in Places They Shouldn’t – least favorite cliche.

I have very many pet peeves and 99% of them are related to love-stories. I don’t like love triangles and insta-love, but what I hate even more is the “sort of plain, insecure girl who desperately needs a boyfriend”. I hate that it undermines the whole idea of that you’re your own person and that don’t need anyone to feel complete. I hate that so so much. (I didn’t hate this book (at all), I just hated that aspect of it).

The Good Old Cardboard Box – most underrated book series.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor the wolves of mercy falls series

The Wolves of Mercy Falls is such an underrated Maggie Stiefvater series. I adored these books so much and I think I always will.

What’s your least favourite cliché? Which character would you want to give a hug?

If you want to do this tag, go for it! I am not tagging anyone in particular but you’re open to do it as you please!

The Book Titles Tag

I saw this over at BooksAndLala‘s youtube channel and it sounded like so much fun I’ve decided to do it here on my blog as well. This tag is a combined edition of two different ones from Rachel Reads and Books and Looks.

The idea behind this tag is that you have 18 questions/statements and you answer each of them with a book title. I have decided to answer solely with the books on my physical shelves, to make it a bit harder for myself (not that this isn’t hard already haha)

1. Title that’s the story of your life

The Perks of Being a Wallflower” – Okay, that one was surprisingly easy. I am definitely a wallflower haha.

2. Title that describes your perfect weekend

I’m trying to find something with reading in the title but I don’t have anything… So I’m going to have to go with “Let’s Get Lost“, because I’d love to get lost (in a story? haha).

3. Title of an adventure you’d like to go on

I’d love to go on the adventure: “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe“, if that means I get to go with Ari and Dante to discover the secrets because that sounds like a lot of fun!

4. Title you want to name your child

I’m not going to call my kid “The Maze Runner“, “Legend” or “Heartless” or something like that. It’s really hard to find a one-word title. I’m going to have to go with “Scarlet“, or maybe “Illuminae” because that’s quite pretty I think.

5. Title of your ideal job

Titles I can come up with: “Red Queen“, “The Martian” and “The Book Thief“. Though Red Queen and The Martian sounds pretty cool job descriptions, I think I’m going to steal some books.

6. Title of a place you’d like to visit

I don’t have any city/country related book titles, except Auschwitz, and let’s not go there. I do own however a copy of “City of Fallen Angels“, which I think is a well enough description of Los Angeles. I’d love to go back to Los Angeles!

7. Title of your love life

UHm haha I think I’m going to have to go with “Silent to the Bone” because my love life is non-existent. “Radio Silence” is a good option as well.

8. Questions you ask yourself

Am I Normal Yet?

9. Title of a kingdom you want to rule OR name

Options are: “Narnia” (which is pretty much taken and also not exactly the title of the book), “Crooked Kingdom” and “Hollow City“. I choose Crooked Kingdom because that sounds pretty cool!

10. Title you’d name your band.

If it were like metal/hard rock, I’d go with “The Death Cure“. “Requiem” also sounds pretty cool for a band name, but I don’t know what type of music they’d play. For a soft indie/folk band, I’d go with “Pigeon English“. I think I’m going to go with the last one. I am also a little bit in love with Lala’s idea of a band called “Eleanor & Park” because that sounds like something I’d definitely listen to.

This is part 2 (the other tag)

1. What is your current mood?

Great Expectations” is as close as I get to how I feel right now. I’m excited and hopeful so I think it fits.

2. What is your favorite color?

The only book I own with a color in the title is “Scarlet” so I guess I’m going to go with that.

3. Describe your BookTube bookblogger bestie.

Man, this one’s hard, but I own this Dutch book called “Lieveling“, which translates to something like “darling” or “favourite” and I think that’s quite perfect!

4. How do you feel about 2017 so far?

2017 has been a pretty good year so far (for me at least) so I think I’m going to go with “Everything is Illuminated“?? Because I can’t find anything better haha.

NO NO WAIT: “My Most Excellent Year” 😀

5. Where do you want to travel?

Okay, this is pretty much the same question as before so I skip it!

6. What is your relationship status?

Happy and single, but I don’t have a book called that so. I do own a book called “Forever” but I don’t own one called “Alone”. That’s a bummer haha.

Okay I got something (this took me forever): “Enders” because I ended my last relationship (that’s the closest I could find. I literally own nothing else that could describe my single-ness).

7. What are your summer plans?

Gosh, I really do not own enough books to answer all these questions. I GOT IT. I have this Dutch how-to book about writing called “Schrijven, Kreng” which translates to “Write, Bitch!” (yeah rude I know) but I am going to write this summer!

8. What are your 2017 goals?

Same answer as before but also “Graduation Day“? (and also the other books in the Testing Trilogy; “The Testing“, “Independent Study“) Although that won’t be this year but beginning of next year. BUT I WILL GRADUATE in the upcoming 12 months!

Okay that was a lot harder than I thought! I own a lot of fantasy novels with fancy titles such as “Daughter of Smoke and Bone”, “An Ember in the Ashes” and “The Bone Season”, which are all really nice but don’t really help me with this tag!

How would you describe your life with only the titles of books on your shelf? What’s the title of your ideal job in book titles? If you want to do this tag, go for it! It’s lots of fun!

You’re Not Good Enough Book Tag

I saw this tag over at Bex’ blog My Shelf and Myself and I thought it was a lot of fun to read and do, so here I am. The idea is that you write down 30 names and pick two random names per question. Then you have to choose which of these two you would pick.

You only have one more spot on your Spelling Bee team – who would you pick to complete your team?

Lara Jean (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before) or Arthur Dent (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy)

Well, Lara Jean would be a lot of fun to have on my team but I’m not sure, she doesn’t come across as a super intelligent. Arthur on the other hand, might have more knowledge? He is an adult so that might help?

Both characters want to kill you – which one would you kill first so you have a better chance of surviving?

Grace (Shiver) or Inej (Six of Crows)

INEJ NO DOUBT. To kill her would suck but I think I’d be killed in 0.2 seconds if I didn’t. It would be bloody painful too, Inej likes cutting people with knives.

You’re on the bachelor/bachelorette and you’re down to these two characters – which one are you going to give your rose to?

Shahrzad (The Wrath and The Dawn) or Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles)

Both are not really my type (if I have one that is), but they’re both fierce and sassy and awesome. Though, I would have to pick Shahrzad for this one, simply because I think Scarlet won’t want me (or my flowers).

You’ve been chosen for The Hunger Games – who would most likely volunteer in your place?

Gansey (The Raven Cycle) or Kaz (Six of Crows)

Well, the most optimal situation would be Kaz, because he’d have killed all the competition in a few hours at most, but I doubt he would volunteer for anyone (except Inej), let alone for me. So I’d have to go for Gansey, who would probably die before the first fight ends (he can’t even throw a punch).

You’ve stranded on an island. Which character would you sacrifice to engage in cannibalism?

Finch (All The Bright Places) or Dorian (The Picture of Dorian Gray)

Ehm, will either of them survive at all? Dorian will miss his mirror too much and Finch… well we all know how he ended up. I’d eat Dorian though, even if it were just for the fact that he wouldn’t turn psycho on me.

You’re the next DC/Marvel superhero (with your own TV show, of course) – who is your sidekick?

Feyre (A Court of Thorns and Roses) or Alina (the Grisha trilogy)

Alina, obviously! Not only did I think Feyre was not particularly smart, but Alina has amazing powers. Chances are that I will become her sidekick though, because she’s pretty impressive with her light powers.

You’re a manager of an avocado admiring company – who would you fire for lack of communication skills?

Elias (An Ember In The Ashes) or Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles)

I don’t really know about Elias’ communication skills, but Cinder is, I think, pretty good at it. Plus, I would never fire Cinder, she’s like my hero. So sorry, Elias but you got to go!

You’ve just finished a book in which your favourite character dies – which character is most likely to comfort you?

Alice (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland) or Levana (The Lunar Chronicles)

You have to ask??? Do you see Levana in any situation comfort anyone??? Levana is the most self-centered, evil-minded, and power-hungry villain I can think of. So, Alice it is.

Ugh, it’s high school. Who would most likely be part of the popular clique?

Simon (Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda) or Dill (The Serpent King)

I don’t really see any of them being popular, they’re both outsiders and in different ways, but I think I’m going to have to choose Simon. Dill’s family name would probably never make him popular, and also he doesn’t care about popularity so??? (Don’t worry Dill, we’ll be outsiders together 🙂 )

The day has arrived; you’ve finally a year older! Who would have the nerve to forget your birthday?

Four/John (The Lorien Legacies) or Cath (Fangirl)

Well, both probably? Four would be too busy fighting aliens and Cath would simply forget because she’s too busy writing fanfiction. I don’t think I even would invite Cath, though she might be more likely to show up.

You’ve just found an upcoming Booktube star. Who would it most likely be?

Karou (Daughter of Smoke and Bone) or Liesel (The Book Thief)

As much as I love Karou, the answer to this question is (no doubt) Liesel. Liesel loves books so I could definitely see her starting a booktube channel (that is, if she lived in this decade).

Sleepover time! Unfortunately, you can only invite one person – who would you invite?

Mare (Red Queen series) or Marguerite (Firebird trilogy)

No way I’d invite Mare, she’s too… too… annoying. Marguerite it is! She likes art too, so we’d probably be drawing all night. And she also has lots of stories from alternate dimensions so that will be fun!

Bam, you’re pregnant. Who’s the parent?

Scarlett (Caraval) or Natasha (The Sun Is Also A Star)

UHM NO THANKS. If I have to choose, Natasha, she’s an awesome character (not that I would ever sleep with her but I could say that about literally everybody).

You’ve just written a super important text. Who would see it, but not reply?

Jacob (Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children) or Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice)

Okay, assuming Elizabeth lived in this decade, she would most likely answer. I think she’d be an awesome friend. Jacob on the other hand, might be too busy fighting monsters to answer.

You’ve just woken up and it’s time for breakfast. Your mom or dad has been replaced by… who?!

Blue (The Raven Cycle) or Clary (The Mortal Instruments)

BLUE (obviously), if she’d be half as cool as her mom, she beats Clary, no doubt. I would probably have to make the breakfast myself but still, I want Blue.

I tag whoever wants to do this, it’s a lot of fun! Who would you give your rose to: Scarlet or Shahrzad? And which fictional character would you want to be your sidekick?
